About the Gamma Omega Brotherhood

Our Founding

Theta Xi | Gamma Omega Chapter,

started in 2014 with three students, Cody Giles, Soya Bissau, and Dell Oliver, who wanted a fraternity that didn't yet exist at Colorado Mesa University. Finishing their sophomore year, they formed an interest group and began the work of building something from nothing.

In December 2015, that group was recognized as a colony of Theta Xi. Three years later, in 2018, they earned their charter as the Gamma Omega chapter.

Four years from an idea to a chartered chapter. Everything here was built by brothers who chose to build it.

Building the Chapter

Chartering wasn't the finish line. It was where Gamma Omega had to prove it could outlast the men who started it.

By 2018 the founders had already graduated. The brothers who carried the chapter across that line were men the founding class had recruited and handed the keys to. A lot of new chapters don't survive their founders. Ours grew.

The years after were about becoming established: bigger recruitment classes, brothers in leadership across campus, and philanthropy built around Habitat for Humanity and the National MS Society. The traditions that feel permanent now were invented in these years by brothers making it up as they went.

Gamma Omega Today

The chapter that exists now is three or four generations of brothers removed from the one that chartered. None of the current actives were here in 2018. That's the point.

2026 marks twelve years since three students decided CMU needed something it didn't have, and eight years since Gamma Omega became a chapter. The men who wear these letters now inherited that and made it theirs.

The Founding of Theta Xi

Theta Xi was founded on April 29, 1864 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, by eight men who left a fraternity divided by infighting to build one grounded in unity and fellowship instead. It remains the only social fraternity founded during the Civil War.

From those eight, Theta Xi grew into a national organization of more than 60,000 initiated members and over 40 active chapters. Its national philanthropic partners are Habitat for Humanity and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and its headquarters is in Atlanta, Georgia.
